Has the lowest population density of any Brazilian state. The state is mostly covered with Amazon rainforest, wetlands and savanna plains. The capital, is a travel hub that dates back to the 18th-century gold rush!

Cristalino Private Natural Heritage Preserve- has over 570 species of catalogued birds.



Chapada dos Guimarães- largest sandstone cave in Brazil; extends 1550m.



Pantanal- most extensive wetland in the world.

Feijão tropeiro- beans with pork rind, sausage, cabbage, and cassava flour


Feijoada- black bean stew, with pork and sausage, served with rice and farota

Chapada dos Veadeiros- famous for the diversity of its landscape and its flora and fauna.



City of Goiás- known for its historical impact and colonial architecture.




Pirenópolis- known for its preserved colonial homes and steep stone streets.

  1. I really enjoyed learning about Mato Grosso and Goiás! I had never heard of either of these states before. Chapada dos Guimarães and Pantanal are definitely locations I would want to visit. The cave is simply spectacular with its depth. In Goiás I would definitely visit Chapada dos Veadeiros.

  2. What amazing areas! The food looks incredible and so yummy. I could spend days exploring there with the cave and natural swimming areas. The biodiversity in Brazil is almost impossible to comprehend. 570 species of birds alone! Pirenópolis looks like an adorable little town and it looks like a great street market too!

  3. Sometimes the small desolate areas of countries hold the most passion for their culture, and that what seems to be the case here. The food looks great and unique as well as the wetlands look especially interesting.
